Bruce Mahalski

CONTEMPORARY FINE ART

Since 1997 he has had solo and group exhibitions of his art work  around the country in a range of media including screen-printing, photography, painting and sculpture. The content of Mahalski's work is very important to him and so rather than just focusing on one discipline he prefers to let his subject matter dictate the medium he uses. In his latest work  for the show - ' Environmental' at the Exhibitions Gallery in Wellington (July 30 - August 15th, 2010)  he has used bones, shells and fossils from his collection to manufacture a series of postmodern/ritualistic scultpures inspired by the shapes of objects and informed by his love of Pre-European Pacific Art. His studio is at Nautilus at 3 Happy Valley Road, Owhiro Bay in Wellington.

MUSICIAN

Some might question Mahalski's acutal musical credentials and ability but this does not detract from the fact that he has been a vocalist/lyricist  for a number of original bands including punky satirists, Crystal Zoom (1983-5),  funky social commentators, Let's Get Naked (1986-91) and more recently, with down and dirty rockers, The Right (2010 -   ).  Bruce sees no clear distinction between artists and musicians and avoids  both as much as possible.  Crystal Zoom and Let's Get Naked put out records (on Flying Nun and Rational Records) and appeared on television shows such as Shazam and Radio with Pictures. There will soon be links to You Tube clips of these early bands and more recent clips from The Right. You can read more about Mahalski's musical adventures in the NEWS section(Interview with Bruce Kowalski) and in the Profile (where there are some MP3's of songs by CZ and LGN).
